Highest peak of the Grünhorn group, on the divide between the Great Aletsch and Fiescher glaciers. Climbed from the Konkordia or Finsteraarhorn huts.

History

The dominant rock peak rising from the upper basin of the Great Aletsch glacier, climbed on 7 August 1865 by Edmund von Fellenberg with his customary Grindelwald guides. The Grünhorn is the highest summit entirely within the canton of Valais's Aletsch region and is the natural high point of a traverse of the upper Aletsch firn from the Konkordia or Finsteraarhorn huts — one of the most spectacular high-glacier walks in the Alps, surrounded by the Jungfrau, Mönch, Fiescherhörner, Finsteraarhorn and Aletschhorn.
