Punta Baretti
Italian, named after Martino Baretti (1841–1905), the Turin geologist who made the first systematic survey of the Italian side of the Mont Blanc massif and reached this summit on the Brouillard ridge in 1880.
Italian peak on the Brouillard ridge between Mont Brouillard and Mont Blanc. Reached by the same remote approach over the Brouillard glacier and the south ridge.
Named after Martino Baretti, the Turin geologist who in 1880 made the first systematic survey of the Italian side of the Mont Blanc massif and reached this summit on the Brouillard ridge with the Valtournenche guide Jean-Joseph Maquignaz — the same Maquignaz family whose iron pegs are still in place on the Dent du Géant. The peak is barely above 4000 m and is one of the least-visited of the 82, usually climbed only by parties working through the UIAA list or making a Brouillard-ridge traverse.
