Aiguilles du Diable — L'Isolée
'The isolated one' (l'Isolée) — the southernmost and most slender of the five Aiguilles du Diable ('devil's needles'), set slightly apart from the others on the south ridge of Mont Blanc du Tacul.
Highest of the five Aiguilles du Diable on Mont Blanc du Tacul's south-east ridge; the most isolated needle nearest Tacul, with a short, sharp summit pitch.
The 'isolated one' — the most slender and southernmost of the five Aiguilles du Diable, the granite needles arrayed on the south ridge of Mont Blanc du Tacul. L'Isolée was the last of the five to be climbed: on 4 August 1925 by the great Chamonix guide Armand Charlet with Jules and Henri Simond, completing the set after a long campaign of attempts. Charlet would go on to make the first integral traverse of all five needles in 1928 with Camille Devouassoux and the American Bradford Washburn — a route now regarded as one of the supreme classic granite traverses of the range.
